Blessingway
A Blessingway is a beautiful ritual for the mother-to-be. It celebrates her step into motherhood and can be held each time she brings a new & unique life into the world. A blessingway is a special way to honor the mother to be as she gifts a piece of her own soul & spirit to the new life she is bringing into the world.
At this all female gathering, friends & family of the mother come together to give her support and encouragement as she waits for labor to begin.
It is a wonderful and affirming time for her.
Oftentimes the friends at the ceremony agree that as soon as they receive word labor has begun they will say a prayer and/or light a candle for the mother as she takes the next step in her life journey.
It is believed that the blessingway tradition was begun by Native Americans. It was a ritual to offer blessing at many life passages, not just pregnancy.
A blessingway can be a spiritual event,in which elements sacred to the mother's religion are represented or it can simply be spiritual in the sense that all present are giving their spiritual and emotional support to the mother-in-waiting.
